This time of the year is full of excitement as many are heading back to school. From grandparents, parents, and children we see the excitement as well as the stress that can be involved. The long summer break can bring challenges when preparing to go back to school.
Heading Back to School transition ideas:
- Bed time is the first step to help start getting back into a normal routine, an earlier bed time will ensure your child will have adequate rest for the first week of school.
- If at all possible take care of all back to school shopping and hair cuts before school starts – this can give you and your children peace of mind.
- To lesson the first day of a new school anxiety, show your child the school, lunch room, teachers and where the office is if they have any questions. It’s a great way to help with the nervous excitement!
- Discuss any school activities or sports they are involved in and how you can help them transition into after-school scheduling.
- Plan for the school year ahead and check out the school schedule – see Hutchinson schedule here.
- Prepare an emergency stash that can fit in your child’s back pack, include things your child may need in the event there is an emergency.
- Before school starts, add money to your child’s lunch account that way your child doesn’t have to worry about this on day one.
- Consider a tag that can go on the inside of your child’s back pack with a list of current emergency contact phone numbers
- Talk with your children about bullying and let them know they can talk to you or the school counselor about any concerns they have.
- Set healthy boundaries with your children before school starts so they know your expectations about walking home from school with friends, where can they stop off at (IE; Mall or a fast food places.)
- When life slows down, stop by and view our model homes!
We hope adults and children heading back to school will find that some of these suggestions can help you and your family ease back into the new school year!
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself”
